An independent report on the merger process that created Volunteer Now by Dr Brendan Murtagh of Queen’s University
This independant review was commissioned by the VSB Foundation in May 2012. Dr Murtagh’s report tells the story of the establishment of Volunteer Now from the merger of 9 Volunteer Centres and the Volunteer Development Agency,
“it was one of the most significant organisational changes in the third sector in Northern Ireland.“
Mergers , co -location and parternships are an increasing activity within the voluntary and community sector we have seen The Building Change Trust fund the creation of Collaboration NI and the DSD in its new Regional Infrastructure Programme has established a priority to increase collaboration and potential mergers within the sector. In his report Brendan shares the experiences of the merger and reflects on the implications for organisations interested in mergers, for support agencies and government.
The VSB Foundation hope that this report, in a environment where the pressures for change coupled with the need for better use of resources are enormous, will be a further contribution to developing good practice and policy.
